Rental Requirements
You must have a valid Malaysian Driving License or International Driving Permit or driving license in English. You must also present an Identification Card or passport (for non-Malaysian).
The minimum age for hiring a car with Smart Car Rental is 23. This will differ dependent on specific vehicle category.
A driver’s license issued from your country of residence is valid for a maximum of 3 months. If the driver’s license is in a language other than English, an International Driver’s Permit is required. Must be able to present passport at the same time.
Yes, you will be charged the rental total plus a security deposit which is refundable after 7 days of returning the car. The deposit amount varies depending on the rental car type.
Security deposit is required to complete the booking process. This will be our cancellation protection and also to cover miscellaneous charges such as fuel, damage to the rented vehicle upon return, summons etc etc.
Yes you can rent a car without credit card/debit card. You may choose to pay using cash or online banking.
If your overseas license or permit isn’t in English, you must also carry an accurate English translation to drive a car in Malaysia.
Reservations
You can make a booking by contacting us through WhatsApp or email and our staff will request your detail; rental dates, pick-up and return locations, etc. You will be provided with a quote and payment options to confirm the booking.
Yes we do accept walk-in bookings but we strongly advise you to contact us first. This way, we can check for car availability based on you rental detail and you will get a quote for the vehicle of your choice.
Yes, as long as a vehicle is available; however no delivery service may be available and you may have to wait longer while we prepare the car. We always give priority to customers who have already made a booking payment.
The daily rental rate includes unlimited mileage, additional drivers, additional extras (if requested) and standard insurance. Standard insurance has an excess of RM2500. There are exclusions for unlimited mileage: rentals where the vehicle is being taken out of Johor.
Please settle the payment at the time of car pick-up at the pick-up location. Payment for hourly extended rental period we may deduct from the security deposit. Payment for daily extended rental period must be made before the original return date & time.
Payment methods accepted are; Bank Transfer (SGD account/MYR account), Credit Card/Debit Card via PayPal and Cash.
The charges for delivery and/or collection of a car rental is based on the location and distance from our location.
Once you’ve reserved a car, you can still change booking details and we will revise the total price accordingly if there is any changes. All changes are free of charge.
Yes, you can pick up your rental car from Johor Bahru and return at Kuala Lumpur for example. There will be a one-way rental surcharge and a minimum length for car hire.
Yes. Available seats vary in accordance with the child’s age and stature, so please state your requirements when making a reservation. Users are also free to make use of their own seats.
*Although our staff members may provide assistance, please make sure to perform the final check on whether the seats have been properly installed.
Yes we provide car rental with Touch & Go card for free upon request. You need to return it back after rental.
Picking Up The Car
Please bring an ID document together with a valid driver’s license or international driver’s license and passport.
The person who made the reservation or the owner of the documents that were used to make the booking.
Usually our rental car is rented out with a full tank of fuel and must be returned the same. Otherwise the renter will be charged for a refill upon return.
Yes you may but we don’t look after a customer’s belongings.
Contact us as soon as you know about the late arrival.
When Using The Car
Territorial restrictions apply depending on the agreement during reservation.
All of our car rental are not allowed to be driven into Sabah, Sarawak, all Malaysian Islands, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia.
It is possible, but we may not be able to allow extension due to the demand of other reservations. When you wish to extend the rental hours, please inform us as soon as possible.
You can pay the fee for extra hours when returning your rental car. Please note that a prescribed penalty will be charged if you exceed your scheduled rental hours without notifying us in advance. If you wish to rent a car longer, please make sure to inform us.
In the event of an accident, firstly provide aid for anyone injured and contact the emergency number located in the invoice or car rental agreement. We will show you the follow-up procedure after hearing the situation.

No, any type of smoking (pipe, cigarette, cigar) is prohibited in all our vehicles. We will charge an extra cleaning fee to the renter if a returned vehicle requires special cleaning to remove any evidence of smoking.
Our fair fuel policies are as follows:
• Full-Full – Collect the car with a full tank and return it full.
• Return with same amount – We recommend you take a photo of the fuel dial when you collect the car in case there’s confusion over the exact amount.
Returning The Car
Simply inform us as soon as you know about the late arrival. You may be charge for hourly rental depending on your expected time of arrival. However do allow a 30-minute grace period for your convenience at return.
Prices are based on the pick-up and return times and dates that we have agree before your rental starts. If you pick the car up any later or bring it back any earlier, you will not receive a refund for unused time.
All vehicles must be refueled to the same level that you received at the time of pick up. If you are running late to return your car and you could not refuel or chose not to pre-pay your fuel, we can settle it by deducting from your security deposit.
Contact us to inform about your forgotten or lost property. We do our best to search for property, but we are exempted from any loss or damage.
If new damage is discovered on the vehicle, it will be noted when the vehicle is returned. We will investigate the damage claim and you will be charged the applicable cost of repair.
Upon the return of your rental, we will refund the security deposit after 7 days.
